Even if he surely did not know the modern version of 3d pictures, especially in movies, it is obvious that Walt Disney had many times the opportunity to handle stereoscopic plates and stereoscopes, that technique (of photography) having got an immense success at the beginning of the 20th century, even long before (cf. the civil war in 3D: 1862-1865). What is almost sure is also the fact that Walt Disney did not know the final improvement of pictures by means of the computer, the so-called C.A.D., which allows, for example, to convert any 2D image into its 3D version. Nevertheless, when you examine his graphic works, and especially his montages of photographs mixed with drawings, it is clear that he had got the presentiment of that being later visible in 3D. As for me, I did not have any problem to turn these pictures into stereoscopies, as if the artist was already aware of all that was coming. Good old Walt! |
