The Parisian ‘Musée Rodin’ (another part of the museum is located at Meudon, near Paris) has undergone a complete refurbishment that lasted nearly three years, and could reopen during the last winter (November 2015). The museum is to be reached by the subway (Varenne, Line nr. 13), and there are not more than 200 steps from the subway to the museum. Thanks to my pass I could avoid the queue, and during that first visit with 3D equipment since the reopening I decided to restrict the stroll to the garden and the first floor. But I am all the more impatient to visit the second floor that it also displays works by the very gifted and unfortunate Camille Claudel. At first sight one can notice that Rodin's style - especially the busts - is that of a draughtsman and painter. And unlike Maillol, whose style is smooth, linear and almost childish, Rodin's style, swarming with a lot of details, is a rough and quite a violent one. The fact is that many single works -Le penseur, le Baiser, La porte de l'enfer, Les Bourgeois de Calais...- could desserve a special visit! (*) Er... Well, surely the greatest among the moderns. Besides that, to be (quite) honest, it's impossible to ignore another genius: Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, whose works -for instance 'La Danse'/'Dancing'- are pure masterpieces! (More) |
